Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students by providing a strong foundation for lifelong success. Effective social-emotional learning includes coordinated classroom lessons and school-wide programming that help students develop the following five key skills:  self awareness, emotional regulation, social awareness, interpersonal relationship skills, and responsible decision making. Students learn how to use a growth mindset to establish personal goals, develop responsibility, and both build and maintain respectful and empathetic friendships.

At Yeshivat He’Atid, SEL is integrated into the classroom setting on a regular basis. Starting in Kindergarten, there is a strong focus on identifying and understanding emotions. All students in Elementary and Middle School Grades have weekly classes to practice the skills and language of social-

emotional intelligence. In Elementary School, following a collaborative discussion, each class has the opportunity to practice these skills in a variety of hands-on experiences including role plays, arts and crafts, and interactive games.

Middle School students have a weekly class called Advisory. Advisory encourages students to further their knowledge of these social-emotional skills by focusing on the skills necessary to be a successful Middle School student.  This is done through hands on experiences, intellectual debates and collaborative learning.
